Streamlight TLR-1 & TLR-3 Tactical Lights

Since in our last newsletter we covered the LaserMax Micro we decided to cover two streamlight lightweight tactical lights this time. We spend about half of our life in darkness so its a good idea to be able to throw some light on the subject when you feel the need to pull out your Beretta CX4 or favorite AR when something goes bump in the night. You can use a handheld flashlight however, if push comes to shove and you need to reload your weapon then a third pair of hands would be needed. TLR-1

StreamLight Streamlight has provided two light weight tactical light solutions. The TLR-1 provides a metal body and waterproof solution while the TLR-3 provides a polymer body and waterproof solution. The -1 is designed for heavy duty and will take a serious beating. A full comparision chart is provided at the bottom of the newsletter.

These powerful, intensely bright, long-running weapon mounted lights set a whole new standard for durability. They’re shockproof, dust-proof, waterproof, and nearly indestructible. The Led won’t break or burn out. Ambidextrous momentarey or steady On-Off switch; Tighten latch with your fingers or a coin; Mounts to Beretta CX4, AR, standard Picatinny rails, or most pistols.

TLR-3
StreamLight
The -3 (Left) while considerably smaller than the -1 (Above) still puts out 90 lumens compared to the 135 lumens for the -1. Since at typical combat ranges anything above 60 lumens is still blinding bright the -3 can still get the job done with less weight and cost. The -3 is recommended for the CX4 as a light weight and compact addition.

The -1 uses two standard 123A Lithium batteries and gives 2.5 hours of run time. The battery door seals to the metal body and is designed to keep water and dust out of the light. Also the -1, and its laser cousin the -2 can be used with a remote. For compact weapons such as the CX4 Storm, or M4 this is not normally required.

TLR-3

The -3 uses a single CR2 Lithium battery and you just unscrew the lamp to replace the battery which provides a water and dust seal. The -3 has no provision for remote operation. As with the -1 a ambidextrous on/off swich provides easy operation when rail mounted on you favorite weapon. The -3 is eligant in its simple and reliable design.

The TLR-1 and TLR-3 provide two solutions for nightime use of your weapon platform of choice. The TLR-1 provides a heavier duty light suitable for use on either the Beretta CX4 or AR platform, while the TLR-3 provides a light weight, compact solution that will not make your Beretta CX4 over weight, both will providing excellent tactical lighting if you need to deploy your weapon at night.
